We work with businesses of all sizes, from sole proprietorships through to fortune 500 companies. Sometimes what those companies simply need is more revenue. They’ve got their production process nailed down, but their capacity is always under 100%. They just need sales. So what’s the right answer to find those sales when a company has never historically had a sales force and has no processes to deal with the “positive chaos” that an effective sales group can bring in?
We look at 2 courses of action:
- The Business Owns It: We can implement a sales structure, including CRM systems and the processes needed to keep a sales staff between the lines. Then we need to staff that structure and evaluate the break-even point for the ramp-up of a “green” salesperson or sales staff. It will return dividends, but not immediately.
This is a great option for a company that is on the fringe of a major growth initiative or one that is restructuring their company. We’ve completed this process for a multitude of companies in varying sizes and states of business. It’s costly, time intensive, but ultimately effective, although not always the right answer.
- The Business Looks 3rd party: We can go outside the company’s walls and find someone else who already had these structures and talent, and ask them to do this work for us. Traditionally the issue is finding someone that is more than a call center. Someone with the same “filter” for what a good referral looks like as you do. Bad leads are more of a distraction than no leads, in our opinion.
