Yellow Lab Partners was founded with the underlying principal of helping businesses “find their own feet” in the sales and marketing realm. As a team, we feel that we’ve been incredibly successful in that purpose, but the hard reality is it something about the temporary nature of consulting never sat well with us. Often times once the structure was in place and initial successes were had, calls from clients stating that they’d “fallen off the bus” or “returned to old habits” back several months later would come in. It opens the door to additional consulting work, but we never want to gain simply because a client isn’t succeeding. It just feels wrong.
The honest answer is that consulting work tends to be “subtractive” in nature. The underlining process is flawed from the start, as the 3rd party consultant has no long-term skin in the success of your firm. It doesn’t mean that consulting is ineffective or carries no value, we just want to call a spade a spade. If you asked your consultant to be paid off the long-term effects of their work in your business instead of hourly, would they agree?
